AN INCONVENIENT BOWL 🌰
The next morning, Glint found Finley beside him with something enormous made of leaves.
“That’s not my bowl.”
Finley placed it beside him. He had folded two broad leaves together, making something much larger than the small bowl Glint had once threatened to forget.
“Yours was inconveniently light. I improved it.”
Inside lay the seed husk from the chamber.
Glint laughed, then pushed the bowl just far enough away that Finley had to settle down to retrieve it.
“You went back for that?”
“Packed it before we left. I’m an excellent servant of pointless objects.”
He set the bowl between them. Glint sent the husk rolling along its inner curve with his sound flipper. It turned, wobbled and stopped short of Finley.
“The course is wrong.”
“Expert opinion?”
“Very.”
Mira arrived with Pondling and immediately wanted to play. They arranged the bowl where Pondling could nose the husk without climbing over Glint’s support.
His first push sent it straight into Finley’s chest.
“Point,” Glint said.
“Against whom?”
“You.”
Finley took this with poor grace, which delighted everybody.
When Glint tired, Mira carried the bowl to the edge of the hollow and continued with Pondling. Finley stayed beside his friend, listening to their new rules multiply.
The husk struck the bowl’s rim and sailed over Mira. Glint opened one eye.
“Out.”
Finley smiled. “There is now.”
