WHEN A LINE COULD MOVE 🌊

Its green tip pointed away from the scarred root. Around it, stems that had stood yesterday now leaned in the same direction, pressed low as fur beneath a flipper.

Vael folded the uncertain edge of Finley’s chart under itself. “This changed while we rested.”

Zale was already pulling their shelter weed loose. “Then we change first.”

TurboTAD looked at the pocket they had made. It was small, but it had become theirs: food tucked beneath one root, chart kept dry of drifting silt, five resting hollows worn into the grass. Leaving felt like giving ground to something that had never shown its face.

He reached for the upper tie. “We’ll keep everyone safe.”

“Don’t promise that.”

Zale had gone still. He held the loosened weed in both flippers, his humour nowhere near him.

TurboTAD’s answer rose hot—I meant I’ll try—but even that asked the future to obey him. The fear he had admitted to Sora returned differently now: not as a reason to stop, but as the wish to guarantee every return.

The flattened reeds shifted again.

“You’re right,” he said. “Move.”

He took the heaviest shelter strand himself. Finley gathered the marked strip; Glint swept their loose traces from the root while Vael carried the rolled chart.

They retreated to a second root without finishing the argument.

Only after everyone was beneath it did TurboTAD see the supper bundle hanging from one hurried loop.
