The two straight reeds arrived looking painfully small beside the archive. 🌱

WHAT HOME SENT 🪵
Two travellers emerged from the narrow approach, each guiding one seasoned reed. Nibble’s braided collar floated between them, bundled tight so it would not snag.
The smaller traveller released her reed and flexed one tired flipper. “From the high roots. We were told not to let Zale wear the collar.”
Zale looked wounded. “My reputation reaches home before I do.”
“It swims faster,” Glint said.
The second traveller gave Vael Marno’s instruction: choose the living load root before tightening anything. Then his face sobered.
“The rack is empty. No more seasoned reeds can leave until fresh ones harden. If these bend, you close the opening.”
No builders followed. Finley watched the gap for a moment anyway. Home needed them.
Vael pressed a flipper to the bowed root. “This one carries the upper weight.”
Finley lifted the first reed. “A reed-width inward. There’s a record edge behind the outer line.”
Together, they checked both positions.
TurboTAD and the travellers eased the reed beneath the living root. It took the weight with a low scrape that everyone felt through the water.
The smaller traveller kept one flipper on it until the trembling stopped. Only then did she let go.
Their own duties waited at home. They drank briefly beneath the starwort and turned back, leaving the second reed and braided collar with the group.
Behind them, the first of home’s last supports was already holding the archive open.
