A grey rib dropped before anyone chose an entrance. 🌿

WHEN THE ARCHIVE MOVED 🪵
The crack travelled through the water like a branch breaking far away.
Finley turned towards the folded centre. A record leaf had slipped from beneath the upper roots, showing one pale edge for the first time.
He darted for it.
Vael swept a flipper across his path. The rib fell through the space he would have entered and buried the leaf beneath a soft burst of silt.
Tiny seed shrimp flashed silver from the crease. They streamed around TurboTAD as he drove his flippers beneath a loose sheet of root skin and held it away from the others.
“The weight’s moving right,” Vael said. “TurboTAD, let it settle slowly.”
His muscles shook as he lowered the skin. The archive folded a little farther. Its middle seam pinched shut.
On the right, a living root bowed and held. Beneath it, a swimmer-wide opening appeared.
Finley stared at the place where the pale edge had vanished. His chart remained rolled tight against him.
“The centre would have taken the first layer with it,” he said.
Vael watched the bowed root. “It still might.”
“Then that is the root we support.”
Glint guided TurboTAD clear of the loose skin. Zale swept drifting fibres from the homeward side without touching the archive.
Finley crossed two plain weeds over the crushed centre, marking it closed. This time Vael gave one short nod.
Inside the right-hand opening, cool water lifted a single record edge. It trembled once and settled.
