THE FRAME’S OTHER JOB 🪵

Nibble brought one frame joint through the gap and set it against the doorway’s stone shoulder.

“The rails could hold the slab here, once it’s raised.”

Marno checked the seat. The small channel would balance the pressure first; the rails would then carry the slab’s weight, keeping it from sliding down.

“Can we put the frame together afterwards?” TurboTAD asked.

“Not with the rails left here.”

Nibble turned the joint in his flippers. He had shaped it for a travelling workshop, not a doorway. The nursery’s outer-bank repairs had already waited while the expedition borrowed it.

“We can move tools in smaller loads,” Marno said. “We can’t carry Glint round that dogleg without tilting him.”

“I know. I’m counting what it costs.”

TurboTAD waited while the two builders measured the shoulders again.

“The woven cradle stays at the landing,” Nibble said. “There are two spare short poles with it. We can hang the cradle between them.”

Marno nodded. “A carrying bed, without the workshop.”

Nibble drew the joint away from the stone.

“I’ll take the frame apart.”

He carried his tools back through the narrow opening. A little later, he returned with the frame’s first loose peg caught in his tool belt.
