The record leaf failed while five careful swimmers were holding it. 🍂

WHAT COULD NOT BE SAVED 🌱
The loosened outer leaf sagged against the guard weed beneath it. Finley guided Zale’s end higher while Vael kept the strained root fibre from twisting.
“A little more,” Finley said.
“The edge is soft,” Vael warned.
“I see it.”
The leaf split along an old crease.
Its upper half stayed in the archive. The lower half folded into pale fibres, and a row of tiny route marks vanished in the cloud before anyone could read them.
Finley caught the blank rim. Nothing useful remained in his flipper.
“I chose the wrong support,” he said.
Vael did not soften the answer. “We all watched it fail.”
“That is not the same as stopping it.”
TurboTAD wanted to offer comfort, but the lost marks were still drifting around them. Any words he found felt too clean.
“What changed when it tore?” he asked.
Glint pointed through the space the leaf had left. Water from a narrow side channel now reached the deeper archive wall. Each gentle movement made a fitted clay layer tip and settle.
Vael pressed against the root rib. “The outer leaf shared this load. It does not now.”
Something creaked beyond the gap.
No one moved.
Finley released the useless rim. One answer had dissolved between them, and its loss had opened a dangerous way towards the others.
He turned towards the flexing side channel before TurboTAD could speak.
