TurboTAD, Zale and Glint cross a broad, pale, rippled pond bed beneath blue shafts of daylight.

Zale reached the bottom first—and forgot to make a joke. 🌿

TOO WIDE FOR A THREAD 🌊

Below the roots, the cramped gap opened into a long basin washed with blue daylight. A broad strip of pale clay crossed its floor, bare of grass and wider than the cleared lane behind them.

They swam down.

The strip kept the same width from one end of the basin to the other. Long scours ran through it side by side, all pointing the same way.

Zale hovered above it. “An old route bed?”

Glint crossed the strip, turned, and crossed back. “Even depth. Straight edges.” He glanced at the faint thread carrying pale grains behind them. “It can carry clay. It couldn’t carve a bed this wide.”

“Could’ve been very determined.”

“It would need several lifetimes.”

TurboTAD almost smiled.

The pale clay stretched beneath him. His chest tightened. Sora had the Little TADs in the high roots, Mira beside Pondling. He had left them to learn why the river reached the nursery. This bed might once have carried far more water.

Zale drifted beside him. He didn’t ask. He simply stayed there.

“So the marker stood here,” Zale said at last.

“Somewhere along a bed like this,” Glint corrected. “I can’t give you ‘here’ yet.”

Zale dipped his head. “Fair.”

TurboTAD looked along the scoured strip. The marker was no longer their only question.

“Mark the way back,” he said. “Then we reach the far end and see whether these scours stop or turn.”

Zale looked back until TurboTAD nodded. Only then did he lead them on.
