GLINT’S GAME 🏮
At the supply landing, Glint challenged Zale to find him.
“You’re right there.”
“Count ten.”
Zale searched behind the service frame, inside curled weed and beneath a stone that would scarcely have hidden his nose. Finley gave Glint away by laughing at the lantern shutter above them.
“You made the leaf blink.”
“Leaves are allowed personalities,” Glint said, emerging.
Marno and Nibble brought the last bundle along the broad supply passage. A thick, unbroken bank separated it from the outer corridor the expedition would explore.
From the landing, a narrow spur climbed through that bank. Glint and Vael followed it after eating. It bent sharply around a stone tooth, then ended at a small broken gap.
Glint turned sideways, squeezed through and entered a quiet chamber. He swam down to its other entrance: a low stone throat opening towards the outer corridor. Then he returned the way he had come.
“The chamber’s sheltered,” he reported. “I went right through the gap. But the turn before it barely leaves room for a swimmer and a bundle.”
The landing’s broad passage ended against a full-sized sealed service door below the spur. Glint had seen its other face inside the chamber.
Pip arrived before dusk. He inspected both approaches with Glint before settling beside the supplies.
“Tell me if you need me,” he said.
